To facilitate physical distancing and do our part to reduce the spread of COVID-19, we are offering telehealth consultations in addition to in-person consultations. These sessions will be held via Zoom, which is a free, secure and easy to use program similar to Skype. Zoom allows us to see and/ or hear each other and share resources much like we would in person. We will also have telephone options available and clinicians will continue to offer face-to-face appointments.
Private Health Rebates
Most health funds have agreed to provide coverage for telehealth consultations provided by psychologists until 30th September 2020. This is available to existing clients who have attended an appointment with the psychologist within the past six months. Alternatively, health fund rebates may be available if psychological services have been recommended by your general practitioner. Your rebate would depend on your level of cover which you would need to discuss with your health fund directly.
The Australian Government has announced a whole population telehealth approach making it easier to access support from your general practitioner, specialists, and allied health supports via telehealth (i.e., phone or video calls) during the coronavirus pandemic. Under this arrangement, Medicare rebates will be available for telehealth appointments with a psychologist until March 2021 for those with a mental health care plan.
